On the 22nd of November 2022, a delegation from the 2nd Security Force Assistance Brigades accompanied by an Italian Army General Staff representatives, visited the NATO SFA COE.

As a part of the US Army Security Force Assistance Brigades (SFAB), it organizes, trains, advises, and supports foreign security forces in coordination with joint, interagency, and multinational forces to improve partner capability and capacity and facilitate achievement of US strategic objectives.

The aim of the visit was to enlarge the NATO SFA Community of Interest and to strengthen the relationship between the NATO SFA COE and the US Military bodies specialized in conducting training and advising activities with allied and partner nations.

After an introduction by the Director of the Centre outlining the SFA Framework and the SFA COE’s Areas of Research, the Lessons Learned Branch Head presented the concept of the Remote SFA approach: an integration of the assistance by remote supporting the capacity building process from the Home State by a pool of SFA Specialists.

Moreover, the Staff briefed those present on the main collaborations with civilian and military organizations and the education and training offer according with the NATO System Approach to Training.

Subsequently, the ITA SFA Section Chief gave a briefing on the research, training and doctrine activities, explaining the current tasks and future perspectives of the Security Force Assistance Section.

The meeting ended with an open discussion on the future opportunities for cooperation, by mutual support and more participation of Subject Matters Experts in projects and activities working on different solutions in the field of SFA and, more generally, within the Stabilization and Reconstruction sector.
