On the 12th of December 2022, a delegation from the NATO Security Force Assistance Centre of Excellence (NATO SFA COE) organised a round table at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the UN in New York. The purpose of the event was to provide an update on the main activities of the Centre and on the main projects developed in collaboration with the Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI) of the United Nations and with NATO’s Allied Command Transformation (ACT) in the Security Sector Reform field.

The NATO SFA COE delegation composed of the Director, Col. Massimo DI PIETRO, and the LEGAD, Maj. Ludovica Glorioso, presented the latest publication entitled “Insights on Strategic Advising for Security Force Assistance”, aimed at highlighting the best practices and guidelines for SFA Strategic Advisors engaged in crisis scenarios, and the future projects with the involvement of UN DPO OROLSI.

Experts from the NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT), the United Nations Department for Peace Operations (DPO), the Section of the Security Sector Reform (SSR) and the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) illustrated respectively the NATO and UN approach to SSR and emphasized the importance of coordination between the two International Organizations in crisis areas.

At the end of the event, NATO SFA COE and the UN DPO signed a Letter of Intent aimed at promoting future collaboration in relevant activities such as training, symposiums and events, and support in editorial and publication projects, such as books, reports and research papers.

The NATO SFA COE has a fundamental role in contributing to increasing the capabilities and skills not only of the entities belonging to NATO and its Partner Countries, but of all International Organizations, supporting them in the field of Security Force Assistance and in the common intent of providing stability and security.
